Bison Win Road Opener
The Bethany College Football team got their first win of the season last Saturday at Kings College (PA). Turnovers and a stalled offense lead to the Bison dropping their season opener, however this was not the case against Kings and the Bison won 31-29.
The offense had a big game on the ground, having two players over 100 yards rushing. Eric Walker, running back, carried the load with 220 yards rushing. This was the fourth most in Bison history according to SID Brian Rose. Walker also scored three touchdowns in the game which brought his career total to 24 giving him the most in Bison history according to Rose. Because of his accomplishments against Kings, Walker was named PAC and ECAC South Player of the Week. Freshmen quarterback Matt Grimard also had a big game with 150 yards rushing with a touchdown and also threw for a score. The lone touchdown pass through the air was a big one has it was the winning score. Jonathen Foster brought in the pass.
The defense gave up some points in the game, but again made plays when it needed to. The Bison defense held Kings to a long field goal attempt with virtually no time left on the clock. The defense was lead by linebackers McQuel Sims and Kyle Arrington, with eight and five tackles respectively. Willis Powell, linebacker, had four tackles and Jeff Joyce, safety, also added four tackles. The defense allowed 307 yards of total offense, but played a lot better than from a year ago.
The Bison hope to make it two wins in a row when they take on rival Washington and Jefferson Saturday night. Washington and Jefferson is coming off a 27-0 loss and the Bison are riding high after their latest victory. The game figures to have high intensity with emotions riding high and low for both teams in the Rivalry Game.
